BIO

Lithuanian-born, Copenhagen-based jazz vocalist Dalia Valančiūtė has been steadily carving out her own space on the Scandinavian scene with a sound that combines clarity, warmth, and storytelling. Since releasing her debut album Open The Door in 2023, she has continued to build her reputation for interpretations that are at once intimate and bold, drawing inspiration from both classic jazz traditions and contemporary influences.

Born and raised in Lithuania, Dalia moved to Copenhagen, where she quickly became part of the vibrant local jazz community, performing regularly at venues such as Charlie Scott’s, Paradise Jazz, and Palæ Bar. She has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, but her longest-running musical partnership has been with her quartet featuring pianist Laurits Høgel, bassist Mariusz Praśniewski, and drummer Jesper Lørup — a band praised for its close interplay and openness.

In September 2025, she recorded her second album
One Or Two Things
at the Royal Danish Academy of Music (DKDM) studios. The record, to be released in 2026, features her quartet alongside guest soloists Malthe Kaptain (trumpet) and Christian Holm Svendsen (saxophone and flute). Compared to her debut, One Or Two Things embraces a more energetic, forward-moving and groove-driven expression while still leaving room for her lyrical, story-centered approach to jazz standards.

Her repertoire draws on both well-loved songs and lesser-known gems, influenced by singers such as Irene Kral, Blossom Dearie, and Betty Carter. What unites her work is a dedication to phrasing, emotion, and honesty — qualities that allow her to connect deeply with listeners in live performance.

Dalia continues to perform actively around Copenhagen with her trio and quartet, while also developing her international profile. With each step, she seeks to create music that feels both timeless and alive in the present moment.
